When you think of mosaic art, massive displays of intricate detail and scale are usually the first things that come to mind. Here’s an artist who’s completely changing the game when it comes to this technique. It’s an incredible feat alone to create these types of pieces, but to do it with unconventional materials like bacon, pencil erasers or even actual trash, is nothing short of mind-blowing.
Take a look at San Francisco-based pop artist, Jason Mecier. He’s best known for his iconoclastic celebrity portraits made of complete junk, many of it donated from admirers and the celebs themselves. His one-of-a kind artwork has been featured on MTV, Rolling Stone and The New York Times, to name a few.
More recently he’s ventured outside of his junk-laced artwork with his new series called “Candylebrity.” It’s full of portraits of celebs made of strictly sugary sweets and features stars like Miley Cyrus, James Franco and even yours truly. The opening reception for Mecier’s Candylebrity gallery is this upcoming Wednesday, June 25. You can RSVP and find out more details here.
